Everything is happening quickly.

We do something, and we realize we have run out of time and yet we have barely done something. Often, it is not because we are incapable of getting something done, it is because we lose focus and something else steals our attention.

It is not easy to keep your focus at all times especially when there are a lot of distractions around – be it humans or things. We want to do something about this and focus on what we have to do.

Here are the ways, tried and tested by successful people, to do things effectively and be on track all the time:

Don’t watch TV
If you need something done, be it at home or work, don’t allow yourself to be distracted by visual things. You may not intend to watch, but if it is there, you will be tempted to look and then have divided attention. Turn off the television or any video running (unless it is part of the task), and you will not only get done on time, you will also provide quality work.

Drink water
Are you heading off track? Drink water. We prefer cold because it jolts us back to reality. We feel refreshed instantly and as a bonus, it helps the body burn more calories as it works to return to normal temperature. You stay on track and burn calories in the process. Why not, right?

Hide your phone
The easiest way to be distracted is to have your phone by your side all the time especially if you don’t need it for work. Hide it or turn it off. Do what works for you to avoid looking at it and using it all the time. You can check your social media accounts once you are done with your tasks and have accomplished everything you planned for the day.

Do now, talk later
You know you want to catch up with your friends, colleagues and family members but it can wait until you are through. Unless it is a meeting that has to happen and a call that is part of your job, task or goal, do the work now and talk later. It pays off not to allow yourself to be distracted and be off track and then celebrate your small success at the end of the day.

When you are always looking at your goal, it will be hard to get you off track because you know what you need to do and accomplish. Keep your eye on the prize and one day you will claim it.
