What does it require?
Perhaps people will think it may require a lot, or probably too much. We can’t blame them, a long life doesn’t come easy unless you work hard for it.
What can you do? Here are the practices proven by those who are living a good, long life:
The easiest thing one can do, if the mind is put to it, is eating healthy food for each meal. Make a conscious choice to cook at home using fresh and healthy ingredients. When traveling, choose the healthiest food available, and do the same when dining out. Bring lunch and snacks with you as well. But remember, you don’t have to deprive yourself of the food you love but don’t overindulge either, lest your effort be wasted.
Upgrade your social status
By this, we only mean that you should socialize more, in a positive way. Go out with friends to catch up, have a coffee or grab a pizza. An occasional night out to have a few drinks is good, too, but again, do not overdo it. Call that friend whom you haven’t heard from in a while or return a call of someone you miss. In short, keep connecting with good friends and reconnect if necessary.
Exercise regularly and do not make it a habit of sitting for a long time. Take standing breaks, stretch whenever you can and rest your eyes. Walk as much as you can and always be on the move. You will always feel great after a sweat session.
Drink water, not beer
Make it a habit of drinking plenty of water. Do it the moment you wake up, before each meal and in between. Go for water, not beer, as often as you can. We are not saying that you deprive yourself of an ice cold beer once in a while, just do not make it a nightly routine. Water, after all, is the healthiest and most affordable beverage you can have.
Do not allow yourself to give up a good night sleep. You should have at least seven to eight hours of shuteye each night. This way, the body can recharge, and you can help lessen the risks of diseases related to lack of sleep. Besides, why sacrifice a good sleep, right?
There are other things you can do to prolong life and to have a healthier lifestyle. Some things may work for others and not for you and vice versa. Do what you think is right for you and your body and don’t forget to ENJOY LIFE!
