“If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave.” – Mo Willems
We are but storytellers.
The life we live is part of a story, and everyone in it has a role to play, but we remain the main character, the master storyteller.
Someday soon, if you haven’t yet, you will find yourself in the wrong story where you are becoming a different person than you intend to be, you are seemingly heading to the wrong direction, and you are unhappy.
It may even get complicated, and you would not know what to do. You will be at a loss. You know what you want to happen, but it would appear as if you are tied to where you are and have no way out, like a prisoner in the dark. You cannot see, but you are raring to go and set yourself free from what is holding you back.
How do you do this, you may ask? It is simple and yet complicated. Leave. This is not to say it is going to be easy or that you may be able to do it right away. It is saying that you have a choice to be out of the situation you are in, which you are not happy about.
Leave, no matter how much it hurts at first. Don’t be where you don’t belong. Don’t stay in a story where you know it is wrong for you emotionally, physically, mentally. If you don’t, you will be drained, miserable and lose interest. Don’t go there because you don’t deserve it.
Do what is best for you. Write your own story if you must. Be the character you are meant to be and have been dreaming of deep inside. The reason you must and need to is that you deserve so much more than you probably believe and think. You have the power to make your life better, to be happier, to be you true to yourself.
Leave when the story is not right for you. Strive to be true to your nature, and if you feel like something is not going the way it should according to your belief, write your own. It does not matter which part of the story you leave, so long as you do.
Direct your life, create your own ending, write a masterpiece of your life for you, not because it is what others but because it is what you want to happen. Don’t hesitate. Tell your story in your own words as live your life in your own terms.
