We think it’s always a race.
Sometimes it is, most times, it is not. However, we must remember that the only marathon we are running is the one inside our head, thinking we have already been left behind.
This may be true in 2 instances.
First, when we get impatient and we want to rush headlong to be able to catch up with everyone ahead of us. We forget to realize that we cannot rush success or dash to make dreams reality. It does not work that way. As long as we are working on our dreams and where we want to be, it does not matter how slow we go. The important thing is we are going.
Second, we are sitting around doing nothing and wasting precious time. This is a valid time to panic because if we keep doing this, we will never catch up, period.
I could not agree more with the author of below article, Jamie Varon, when she said that we “don’t get to game life.” Yes, and we should not. Life is what it is. You have to live it, or it outlives you. You take the hand you are dealt with and make the best out of it. You cannot rush to be where you want to be. No magical potion can transport you there if it is not yet meant to be.
I also agree that we have to be allowed to be a human being. However, our very nature is what makes things murky. Yes, it is human to make mistakes, to chill, to let life take its course—but this is the very same reason we use as an excuse to be mediocre and settle for being average.
Perhaps being left behind is a mere imagination because if we are willing, there will always be time to catch up. Which brings me to another point, if you are not going to motivate yourself, who would? If now is not the time, when? In my humble opinion, when one says you do not need motivation to create the life you want—isn’t that the same motivation you need to create the life you want?
To conclude, what if life is telling us to work our butts now, to keep pushing that boulder, until it gets on the other side? When that happens, we can chill and enjoy life. How about that?

To Anyone Who Thinks They’re Falling Behind
You don’t need more motivation. You don’t need to be inspired to action. You don’t need to read any more lists and posts about how you’re not doing enough.
And what I think we all need more than anything is this: permission to be wherever the f*ck we are when we’re there.
You’re not a robot. You can’t just conjure up motivation when you don’t have it. Sometimes you’re going through something. Sometimes life has happened. Life! Remember life?
You don’t get to game the system of your life. You just don’t…It’s the basis of presence to show up as you are in this moment and let that be enough.
Things are dark until they’re not. Most of our unhappiness stems from the belief that our lives should be different than they are.
You don’t need more motivation or inspiration to create the life you want.
Let’s just say that whatever you want, you want it enough. So much so that you’re making yourself miserable in order to achieve it. What about chilling out? Maybe your motivation isn’t the problem, but that you keep pushing a boulder up a mountain that only grows in size the more you push.
We have to just let it be, to take a f*cking step back for a moment, stop beating ourselves up into oblivion, and to let the cogs turn as they will. One day, this moment will make sense. Trust that.
