We are faced with it every single day. Whether or not we are making the right one, we make them anyway, because we must.
But how do we know it is wrong? How do we stop?
It may not be easy, but you may want to consider thinking things over when:
Your instinct is screaming, “no.”
Some things are too good to be true. When it seems like it, you might be making a big mistake. While we cannot say that our instinct is never wrong, it hardly is. When you are having second thoughts, reassess the situation, double check the details, pros and cons and then decide.
Your emotions are on the roof.
During moments when your emotions are not your best friends, when you are angry, depress, or anxious, do not decide on anything. Wait until your emotions have settled down. It is for the best. When emotions are in checked, you make better decisions.
You are too tired to process anything.
Exhausted people seldom make the right decision. If anything, worse decisions are committed not because of intent but of lack of time and ability to think things through.
You are in a rush.
Take your time. Listen and hear all the information being provided to you. Check the facts and the details available. Do not do rush anything. Good decisions take time, and it is something done with a clear mind, heart and emotion. It is understandable that we have to make a decision in a hasty manner once in a while, but in this instance, we simply listen and follow our instincts.
There you have it. Now, you can be more aware before you make or do not make any decision. When you have thought things through and made an unfavorable decision anyway, do not beat yourself. Learn from your mistakes and do better next time.
