The Reason People Fail To Decide For Themselves

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” — Stephen Covey

Is life complicated?

Are the choices we make complicated, too? They do not have to be. We can simplify, but then again we are also aware that it is not as easy as that.

It is hard to decide for oneself because of fear, of hesitation, of worries about what other people might think and say. It is a game that is hard to play because people don’t want to lose. But that is the thing, isn’t it? In a game of life, sometimes, we lose and sometimes, we win.

People fail to decide for themselves because they don’t want to lose because life is not fair and they want to play on the safe side. Unfortunately, being on the safe side also means losing and perhaps failing.

When someone plays it safe, the opportunity to learn and grow is lost. This means that you don’t dare yourself to be better than you can be, to achieve your dreams and to elevate your status in life, nor would you improve your knowledge.

This is unfortunate because this means they will be staying where they are, safe, but stagnant. We are not saying that this is a bad thing. If they are happy where they are, it is well and good. However, if they still have dreams and aspirations in life and are only afraid to go out there, it is a different story.

Be brave. Decide for yourself. Do not pay attention to what other people might say. It is your life. It is your decision to make. It is your present and future; it is your right to do as you please.

What you decide will always be what you will be and how you will be. Don’t be afraid to fail but be afraid to be who you are not because then you will only waste your time, your life and your happiness.

Be the best you can be, and that is always more than enough.
