Happiness is more than just a word.
It is an emotion like no other and something seemingly evasive. But the truth is, it is not the case. Maybe there is something stopping you from being truly happy with or without your knowledge?
You see, happiness could be the simplest of all emotions. If we want to be happy, we can be. Admittedly, however, there are moments when it is challenging. The good thing about it is that we can still choose to be happy.
Meanwhile, these are the things that are most likely making you unhappy:
Hoping someone will change for you
This is a wrong belief. While it is good to wish someone would change for you, it will not happen. Real change comes from within, and if someone wants to change for you, they will do it at their own volition and not because you want them to or you expect them to. Do not depend your happiness on someone’s ability to change. Be happy because it is your choice.
Putting off your plans
If you want to do something, do it now. Later may never come. Take the plunge and dare yourself. There is nothing more satisfying than having the courage to do what others think you won’t be able to. Don’t put off anything you know would make you happy. Otherwise, you will long for it and end up unhappy, and you know you don’t deserve it.
Being with the wrong crowd
You have a lot of friends, but you know too few of them genuinely care about you. Choose people who bring out the best in you and who would support you when you fall. Choose the dreamers, the doers and those who live life and know how to have fun. Being happy may not be dependent on others, but friends and loved ones do make life brighter and you, happier.
It may make other people happy, but it will make you miserable and resentful. When you please people, you are doing yourself a disservice. Remember that you are free to do what you want and you don’t need other people’s permission to do what makes you happy or to follow your dreams. Stop pleasing people and start pleasing yourself for once.
Remember, only you can decide if you want to be happy or otherwise.
