Self-pity, an emotion that is more destructive than we thought.
We say this not because it is true for everyone else but because of what experience has taught us. Perhaps others deal with it better, or some people never feel it at all, but for those who have and still do, it is one of the darkest moments one would have to deal with in life.
If you are tired of self-pity and want to get out of the dark hole, here are the effective things you can do:
Share how you feel
You have had time to deal with it, which is good. Whenever something dreadful happens, I always allow myself time to mourn. It is my way of dealing with it. Then, when I am ready, I share it with my closest and trusted friends and family members. Sometimes I talk about it once or twice, even thrice then I get tired of it, and my mind and body would want to go back to the light. That is how sharing and talking about it works. So go ahead and don’t be afraid. The ones who care will not judge you; they will be your rock instead.
Keep yourself busy
Get back to your hobbies and invent new ones. Travel, hang out with friends, reconnect with others and do what makes you happy. The busier you get, the less time you have to feel sorry for yourself and the more time you have to appreciate the good things in life.
Take care of yourself
Self-pity is over, and now it is time to take care of yourself. Eat right and exercise regularly. Sleep well and always look at the bright side of life.
Be proud of what you have gone through
What happened may or may not be your fault, whatever it was, however, the only thing that matters now is that you have gone through it and you have passed with flying colors. We know it wasn’t easy, but the fact that you managed and you can smile once more is quite an achievement.
Sometimes, it takes longer than others to get out of the darkness called self-pity but know that you will get there. Never forget your worth and know that you are always loved.
